Nikopol is a city in the southeastern part of Ukraine, belongs to the Dnepropetrovsk region and is the administrative center of the Nikopol region. The city is located on the right bank of the Dnieper River, 99 km from Dnipropetrovsk. The area of ​​the city is 59 km2. The territory of Nikopol belongs to the steppe zone and is located between the northern and middle steppe subzones. In the south, the city is washed by the Kakhovka reservoir. Height above sea level fluctuates between 13 and 78 meters. This region is characterized by a moderate continental climate.

Nikopol is one of the industrial centers of Ukraine. More than 50% of revenues to the city budget are generated by industrial and metallurgical enterprises. The city has more than 400 streets with a total length of about 600 km. There are about 800 multi-storey residential buildings in Nikopoli. The city is crossed by the main railway, the regional highway, river transport is well developed.

The city was founded in 1639, and the first mention of it dates back to 1645. Remains of settlements and burials dating back to the 2nd millennium BC were found on the territory of the city. During the excavations, a considerable amount of archaeological materials related to the ancient cultures of the Neolithic, Bronze Age, Scythian and Sarmatian periods were found. One of the most valuable finds in the city is the Golden Pectoral, dating from the 4th century BC.
