Cherkasy on a Map

Cherkasy is one of the largest cities of Ukraine, with a population of more than 280 thousand people. It is considered a center of the economy and industry. Satellite images show that the city is located on the right bank of the Dnieper River at the artificial Kremenchuk reservoir. The distance to Kyiv is just 160 km (100 miles).

The history of Cherkasy dates back to the mid-19th century. It was a time of active railway construction and intensification of river freight transportation.

Despite the large population, the city is still rather compact and occupies just 70 square kilometers. Cherkasy is divided by Smelyanskaya street into two parts. The right and left banks are connected by a dam, through which railway and automobile traffic are organized. Besides, in Sosnovskyi District of Cherkasy, there is a reservoir dam.
